A VPS (virtual private server) is a method of splitting one physical server into several virtual servers, each with it's own operating system and the capabilities to appear as a dedicated server. By hosting your site on a VPS you reduce the risk of your site being effected by the traffic or scripts of other sites sharing a server with you.
