HostGator

The Hostgator plans are incredibly competitive. Shared Linux plans start at just $4.95 a month for the basic account, up to $12.95 for their unlimited plan. All of their accounts come with cPanel, Fantastico, PHP, and Ruby on Rails.

We love Hostgator, we've used them for a few sites and we've been really impressed. We had no problems and didn't notice any down time, however we did have a couple of problems with the registration process with a couple of our (valid) credit cards being rejected by their payment gateway. These problems were simple to resolve via the excellent 24/7 live chat however, so we have nothing but praise for Hostgator, their service and their team.

LunarPages

We spent a lot of time putting together this database of hosts, and of all the hosts we found we don't think any can touch LunarPages in the amazing number of features they have managed to cram into their excellently priced accounts.

Windows and Linux servers, Ruby on Rails and ASP as well as the standard PHP, dedicated servers, VPS, reseller accounts, PostgreSQL and MySQL, 24/7 support and cPanel with Fantastico. All of this and they even responded to our sales email in less than 2 hours on a Sunday. We like.
